Everyone wants you to fast, eliminate, or simplify your eating habits in an effort to lose weight or detox. These should not be the driving factors for how you eat. The driving factor should be your health and happiness. This means we need to stop thinking of our bodies as machines that can be fine tuned through a highly regulated and controlled intake. The body is more like artificial intelligence, except that it’s not artificial, it’s a natural, evolving, adapting, adjusting ecosystem of many many complex moving part and yes, living organisms. It’s not just “our” bodies working, it’s millions of bodies working, fighting, colliding that keep us healthy. We feed this system through everything we do, every breath, every passing moment impacts this system in one way or another.
The term diet here will remain grounded in the basic principle of “food we habitually eat” instead of being a defined set of restrictions. The guidelines of this diet are going avoid heading down the path of elimination but instead will focus on helping change our habits to do what naturally feels right. Those tenets are:
- Moderation
- Diversification
- Whole (whole grains, whole apples)
- Seasonal (as much as possible)
- Local (as much as possible)
